Passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at age 90. Born August 20, 1921 in Lansing to Orville and Erma Ranes. Bill proudly and honorably served his country during WWII as an Army Ranger experiencing such events as the D-Day Landing and Battle of the Bulge as part of Patton’s Third Army. He went on to work for Lorenz Lawn Mower Service where he retired as a Service Manager. Bill was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church since 1978. He loved fishing and playing his harmonica and fiddle. Bill was known for being not boring or politically correct. Preceding him in death was his wife, Alta (Hannahs) Ranes.
Surviving are his daughter, Karen (Darrell) Place; sons, Darwin “Ray” (Danielle) Ranes, Bill (Jeanine) Ranes, Ed (Jill) Ranes, Jeff (Laura) Ranes; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and devoted friends.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 13, 2012 at Chapel in the Pines Funeral Home. Family will receive friends Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
