Bessie M. Wight Morgan passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Sensations memory Care Center. Born February 18, 1922 in Cass City, Michigan to Emmalina L. Hammond. After her mother’s early death Bessie was placed in several Christian foster care homes. Bessie graduated from Flint Central in 1940. Married to William Gurden Wight in 1940 until his early death in 1965. She worked at J.W. Knapps and State of Michigan, Liquor Commission. In 1970 Bessie married Philip Morgan and they enjoyed 35 years traveling and working together on the farm.
Bessie will be remembered for her great sense of humor and her love for everyone. Her hobbies included crocheting, sewing, arts and crafts, reading and writing poetry. She received great pleasure in giving to others.
Bessie Morgan was preceded in death by her husbands, William Wight, Philip Morgan; sisters, Alice McRae, Frances Metevia and daughter, Roberta Gustafson. She is survived by her son, William (Jan) Wight, Evelyn (Pete) Janos, step children, Phyllis Straight, Clare (Elaine) Morgan, Alberta (John) Chapin and Doris (Tom) Eaton; eleven grandchildren,Michelle (Shannon) Priest, Colleen (Mike) Clapper, Lisa (Chris) Peterson, Penny Wight, Debra (Brian) Craft, Scott Thurow, Michelle (Mike) Morgan, Troy (Jennifer) Straight, Amanda Morgan, Molly Morgan and Ricky Eaton; fifteen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren; sister, Lois (George) Wight.
Celebration of Life service will be Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Skinner Funeral Home at 315 S. River St Eaton Rapids with Pastor Wes Priest officiating. Interment will follow at East Lawn Memory Gardens in Okemos. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to Sensations memory Care, “Paralyzed Veterans of America”, “Smile Train”, Feed the Children, Prison Ministry or a charity of your choice.
