Clarabelle "Penny" Duncan Obituary (1925 - 2022) - East Lansing (Meridian Twp), MI

Penny Clarabelle Duncan age 96, formerly of Sonoma County, California, died in East Lansing, MI on July 16, 2022. Penny was born on November 20, 1925, in Taft CA, the youngest daughter of Harriet (McPherson) and Cornelius Kliewer. Penny had a wonderful zest for life and created a beautiful, loving home for her family. She graduated from San Jose State University in 1947 with a B.A. in Dietetics, and always served delicious, healthy meals. Penny and her husband, Don, shared a deep love, and she learned to fly a plane to act as his co-pilot! Penny was warm, full of fun and a natural nurturer. She enthusiastically helped her children with all kinds of projects - from building pinewood derby cars to sewing clothes, costumes and even a tent. She read aloud and recited poetry with magical animation, and loved singing with her grandchildren. Penny was a Unitarian, cared deeply for social justice, and volunteered with children's literacy and the League of Women Voters. Penny was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Donald Duncan, in 2009, and two sisters, Mary Lou Williams and Myrtle Lettis. Surviving are her children Kathleen Duncan of Pacifica, CA, Jim (Tami) Duncan of Weott, CA and Anne (Giles) Brereton of Williamston, MI. Also surviving are her three beloved grandchildren, Rob, Justin and Emily Brereton. A family celebration of Penny's life will take place in California.
