Ernest Edward Melton
Of Eaton Rapids and Lansing area passed on Friday, September 20, 2019 at the age of 94. Ernest was born on December 7, 1924 in Lansing, MI the fourth of eight children born to Ernest O. and Emma (Bonham) Melton. He was raised in Eaton Rapids where he attended school before enlisting into the US Navy at the age of 17. Ernest served aboard the USS Bell stationed in the Pacific during WWII. After his service he went to work for General Motors for a short period before taking a job as an electrician for Motor Wheel where he moved up the ranks and eventually retired. Ernest was very active at the Jean Bradford Kline Senior Center in Eaton Rapids where he cooked numerous swiss steak suppers and served as president.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Laurel Melton; 6 sisters, 1 brother and his parents.
Surviving are his daughter, Linda (Patrick) Murphy; son, Charles (Trudy) Melton; grandchildren, Amy Murphy, Matthew (Chrystal) Murphy, Gloria (Hakim) Alhasanawi, Steven (Christa) Melton; great grandchildren, Slater Murphy, Caleb Murphy, Deegan Murphy, Derek Stultz, Laurel Melton and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Capitol City Church of God with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family askes that memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Rapids Senior Center in memory of Ernest.
