Jon Opdyke Obituary (1948 - 2021)

Jon Charles Opdyke Lansing Passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at the age of 72. Born October 25, 1948 to Charles and Leota (Tucker) Opdyke in Lansing, Michigan. Jon honorably served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War as a Navy Seal. He started working in property management in 1977 and went on to become Regional Director of Senior Affordable Housing Communities in Michigan and Illinois. Jon enjoyed singing, playing bass and lead guitar. He also played in various bands. He was known as a very organized man, an avid fisherman, loved to make people laugh, and also loved learning about God's Word. Jon will be dearly missed by all who remember him. Preceding him in death were his sister, Gay Chesley; mother-in-law, Irene Hiatt and his parents, Charles and Leota Opdyke. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Kathie Opdyke; children, Jon Hanson, Austin Opdyke, Ryan Opdyke; grandchildren, Rhett Hanson, Elijah Taylor, Ashton Taylor, Jordyn Matthews, Alexis Ballentine as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
