Margaret Pitz Campbell Hays Obituary (1947 - 2020)

Margaret "Maggie" Jean (Pitz, Campbell) Hays passed away on December 5th at the age of 73. She was the wife of Robert "Bob" Hays, and mother of Anna (Hays) Fox. Daughter of Frances Pitz of Wiesbaden Germany and Elsie (Peer, Pitz) Campbell of Pittsburg, PA, Maggie grew up in Pennsylvania. She always loved nature, and some of her fondest memories were of playing near the waterfall in the woods by her home. She also loved to make people laugh, and even wrote and starred in several stage productions at Gateway High school in Monroeville. Shortly after graduating, Maggie joined the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill Generalate in Greensburg PA and became a nun, going by the name of Sister Elsa. Two years later finding that the life of a nun was not a good fit for her, Maggie left and became a fourth grade school teacher. In 1971 she met Bob at Lombard Motors in Monroville and a year later they were married. Maggie was a member of the Ohio chapter of the National Speaker's Association, and spoke at many women's gatherings. She also assisted her husband Bob in the ministry as he later became a preacher and spent 30 years in the ministry. After 16 years of prayer for a child, Maggie found out she was pregnant on her 43rd birthday. She gave birth to a healthy baby girl, and went on to homeschool her for most of her education. A strong woman of faith, Maggie's relationship with God was of the utmost importance to her. She loved God with all her heart, and continually gave of her time, talents, and treasures to the Lord. Maggie is survived by her husband of 48 years Bob (Lansing) and daughter Anna (Alex) Fox. According to her wishes, she has been laid to rest with her in-laws in Pennsylvania.
