Frederick John "Fred" Blanck Obituary (1922 - 2015)

Frederick John Blanck Lansing Frederick John Blanck, 92, of Lansing, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 8, 2015. Born November 2, 1922 to Frederick and Josephine Blanck in Brooklyn, New York. Fred was a World War II Veteran and served in the Signal Corp. [S.H.A.E.F 3118.] Fred graduated from MSU with a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He went to work for the Lansing Board of Water & Light where he would retire 30+ years later. He was an active member of the Board of Water and Light Retirees and an active member and usher of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He was an avid MSU fan and an usher for the football games for 46 years. The American Red Cross was a recipient of his generosity where he donated over 19 GALLONS of blood. In his younger years he loved bowling and bicycling. Fred credited much of his longevity to cardio walking at the junior college 3 days a week for 17 years. He enjoyed gardening, birds and genealogy. Most of all he loved traveling and spending time with his family. Preceding him in death was his first wife, Doris Doreen (McClellan) Blanck, of 39 years and his second wife, Katherine Juanita Blanck of 24 years as well as his half brother David Blanck from New York and his parents. Surviving are his daughter, Marsha (Stephen) Pettinger, son John (Carrie) Blanck; daughter, Priscilla Ross; step-children, Bonnie (Charlie) Boyd, Monte (Chris) Young; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; half-brother, Richard (Pat) Blanck and half-sister, Judy Zaczkiewicz. A funeral mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 13, 2015 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Fr. John Byers as celebrant. Family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday at Skinner Funeral Home, Lansing Chapel and 1-2 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary prior to mass.
