Heidie Ann Speer Obituary (1969 - 2011)

Heidie Ann Speer, 44, of Springport, passed away peacefully at home on June 9th, from complications of pneumonia. Heidie was born February 27, 1967 to Marvin Dawn and Linda Speer. In 1986 she graduated from Springport High School and quickly enlisted in the Armed Forces, proudly serving in the US Army. Heidie began a notable softball career in Springport, beginning at age 8 with the Hooterville Hotshots, taking the team to win the first ever league championship. She played through high school and continued for 20 years with the Hotel Tavern team, making many friends and collecting many trophies along the way. Heidie enjoyed preparing meals and loved cooking socially and professionally, most recently employed at the Centennial House for several years. Heidie most enjoyed her time with her close friends and family and never missed an opportunity to go fishing with them. Heidie was a gatherer of friends and children, and was so proud to have taken on the responsibility of rearing her niece and nephews when the need arose. Heidie took great pride in these children and was extremely close and loving to all of her family, without reservation. By any nickname, Hildegard; Aunt Crazy; Aunt Chicken Head; Heidie Ho-Ho; she was a generous spirit full of love and kindness for all and passed it around freely. Her enormous smile and infectious laughter will forever remain in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to have known and loved her. Heidie affected many lives and collected numerous good friends who will miss her dearly. Heidie will forever be cherished and remembered by: her adoring sons Joe and Josh (Whitney) Barnett, former life partner Angie Graham, father and second mother M. Dawn and Cindy Speer, brother Scott, sisters Shelly (Dave) McClain, Dawn (Lynn) Moore, Valerie (Kevin) Thomas, step-siblings Crystal and Danny Kendall, special cousin Jeremy (Casey) Speer, nieces and nephews: Benjamin, Sabrina and Kristian Speer (Who also call her "Mom"); Jon, Jason and Corey McClain, Lonnie and Logan Whitaker; Angel and Ally Nazaruk; Meeko and Phoebe Speer, Annabelle Kendall and 5 special great nephews she adored. Preceded in death and welcomed into Heaven by her loving mother, Reverend Linda A. Speer and brother Christopher James. Memorial Services will be held June 19th at 1:00pm Skinner Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family to assist with final arrangements are appreciated.
