John Leslie Selby Sr. Obituary (1938 - 2014)

John L. Selby Sr. Mason Passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at age 75. Born October 9, 1938 to George and Hazel Selby in Portage Township, Michigan. John was a graduate of Engadine High School where he excelled in baseball winning a high school state championship his senior year. John came to Lansing area for employment starting out with General Motors for a brief time and then moving on to the Wohlert Corporation where he would later retire. Coming from a family of loggers, John was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting wood and riding his John Deere lawn mower. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. Preceding him in death were his wife, Lillie; sisters, Hester Dagenais, Dorothy Lesatz, Hazel Allen, Lizzie Gage, Margaret Loehr; brothers, Wes and George Selby as well as his parents. Surviving are his daughter, Angela (LeRoy) Nestell of Mason; brothers, John (Jamie) Selby Jr. of Eaton Rapids, Randy (Colleen) Selby of Mason; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sister, Mable Snyder; brothers, Ernie (Toots) Selby, Art (Carol) Selby as well as several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Skinner Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids Chapel. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
