Mary Lucille Lewis Obituary (1927 - 2014)

Mary Lucille Lewis, age 87, passed away May 14, 2014. Surviving are her husband, Roger L. Lewis; brother, Howard Rittenger, Boise, ID; daughter, Emily J. Lewis, Dublin, OH; son, R. Gregg Lewis, Boise, ID; son-in-law, Mark Pullano; Stepsons, Dale and Gary Lewis, Delray Beach, FL and Port Huron, MI; grandchildren Gregg and Max Pullano, Clayton Lewis, Sam Kramer and Veronica Kramer. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Anne Lewis. Mary was born to Howard and Lucille Rittenger on March 25, 1927 in Lowell, MI. She enjoyed the life of a small town girl, cycling the nearby hills, stopping at Chris' drugstore for a coke, attending the matinees at the local movie theater and, most of all, borrowing books from the small Lowell library. Following graduation from Lowell High School, she earned her degree in social work from Michigan State University. She worked as a social worker at Blodgett Hospital and then decided to pursue graduate studies at the University of Michigan. Through mutual friend, she met Roger Lewis, who she married in 1952. After employment at Detroit Medical Hospital, Mary became a stay at home mother devoted to the care and well-being of her family. The family moved to Grand Rapids, MI in 1961 remaining there until Roger's work took him to Lansing, MI. Following full retirement, Mary indulged herself in reading, her life-long passion. Mary was known as a classy lady, tastefully groomed and clothed, a person who took pride in her appearance. Mary Asked that no funeral ceremony be held. She will be buried in Oakwood cemetery alongside her parents. A memorial gathering will be planned for later this year. Goodbye, Mary. We loved you.
