Taylor "Red" Groves Obituary (1927 - 2012)

Age 85, died Sunday, March 4, 2012 in Eaton Rapids. Born January 11, 1927 in Grand Rapids, Michigan son of Earl W. and Hattie (Bevins) Groves. Red served in the US Marine Corp during World War II. From 1957 to 1962 Red and wife Dorothy owned and operated "Taylor Made Bakery" in Eaton Rapids. He retired as Manager of Food Service for Michigan State University after 27 years of service. A member of the First Congregational Church in Eaton Rapids for over 50 years; member of the American Legion in Eaton Rapids and Florida; former member of the F&AM lodge #63 in Eaton Rapids and past president of the Eaton Rapids Jaycees. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 2008. Surviving are 2 sons, Steve (Mary) Groves and Mark (Riny) Groves all of Eaton Rapids; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Calvin Groves of Coco, FL and Clinton (Dianne) Groves of Apple Valley, CA.; sister, Erythe Hobbs of Viroqua, WI.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday, March 9, 2012 at 11:00 AM from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Rev. John Metcalf officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.
