Thom E. "Splntr" Church Obituary (1956 - 2013)

Thom E. "Splntr" Church Lansing Passed away Monday, December 23, 2013 at age 56 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born December 31, 1956 to Jack and Dorothy Church in Lansing, Michigan. Thom graduated from Holt High School on June 2, 2000. He was very happy with himself at having received his diploma instead of working for a G.E.D. He put in the hours needed to complete his high school requirements which he was proud of and his family was extremely proud of him, also. A favorite quote of his, from the movie Rocky: "It is not about how hard you can hit, It's about how hard you can take a hit... and still keep moving forward." He worked in general maintenance for the American Red Cross. Thom enjoyed woodworking and riding his Suzuki Motorcycle which he painted and customized. He was a practical jokester who was sensitive and caring, always making time for his family. Preceding him in death were his daughter, Melissa Noonon; sister, Linda Martin and his parents. Surviving are wife, Ruth Church; son, Josh (Amanda) Church; son-in-law, Jeff Noonon; grandchildren, Kaida Church, Kaeden Church, Nathan Norris, Zach Noonon, Matt Noonon; sisters, Judy (Buddy) Holton, Gail (Brian) Wolf, Terri (John) Hoffman; brothers, Jack (Rhonda) Church, Steve (Mary) Church, Steve (Cindy) Cole, Clay (Barb) Cole; brother-in-law, Gary Martin as well as several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Holt Christian Church, 2424 S. Washington Rd. Lansing, MI 48911. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan at 1210 W. Saginaw Rd.
